About the Efficiency Council

Our Mission

To support appropriate energy efficiency policies, programs, and technologies that create sustainable jobs and foster long-term economic growth, stable and reasonably priced energy infrastructures, and environmental improvement.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Efficiency Council is to:

  • Have a strong, fact-based and balanced efficiency industry voice before local, state and national policymakers and regulators;
  • Inform the industry of events, legislation and regulation that affect their businesses;
  • Provide networking, outreach, training, and business and workforce development services for the efficiency industry;
  • Connect members to national and other state/regional efficiency business and outreach opportunities.

Our Goals

The goals of the Efficiency Council are:

  • Effective, long-term and appropriate energy efficiency public policies that benefit from the experience and expertise of the organizations that provide efficiency products and services; and
  • More effective, successful and sustained energy efficiency applications, technologies, systems, and businesses.

Members

Full Members are companies that provide efficiency services, programs, and products in California. These can include energy service companies, engineering and architecture firms, contractors, implementation and evaluation consultants, manufacturers, and distributors of energy efficiency products and equipment. Utilities, because of their unique position in the market, are not eligible to become Full Members of the Council.

While membership of the Efficiency Council consists primarily of Full Members, businesses and organizations that do not directly provide efficiency products and services but have an interest in supporting California’s energy efficiency industry are welcome to join as Associate Members. Associate Members enjoy many of the same benefits as Full Members in the Efficiency Council, yet there are several distinctions between the two membership categories. Most importantly, only Full Members are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors and to vote on Efficiency Council matters, including policy positions.

Governance and Operating Structure

The Efficiency Council is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) mutual benefits corporation with a Board of Directors elected to represent its California industry members. Services provided by the Efficiency Council are provided through our staff, contracted consultants, and a combination of volunteer support from Board Directors and member committees, and in-kind services provided by member companies. As a responsible organization, the Efficiency Council has professional anti-trust, conflict of interest and client confidentiality protection policies.
